SWSPHN Webinar - Practical Considerations for Deprescribing in Residential Aged Care
Adverse drug events rise with the number of medications used and have been linked to falls, confusion, depression, and possible hospitalisation in patients over 75 years. Polypharmacy and the use of antipsychotic medications in residential aged care have received attention from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. This activity aims to increase GPs knowledge, skills and confidence in identifying, monitoring, and reducing inappropriate polypharmacy and use of antipsychotic medications in the elderly patient.
- Describe best practice recommendations in clinical topics relevant to general practice.
- Develop improvements in current patient management in the light of new developments in these areas.
- Develop system changes within the practice to improve safety of patients with these conditions.
