Why should I identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to my doctor?

bATSI-branding-light-blue-green-communityIt is important to tell your GP if you are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander so that they can make sure you get access to healthcare you might need.

There are specific services available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that your GP or other healthcare provider can refer you to for further support.

If you end up in hospital, whether in an emergency or as an inpatient, let your carers know that you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. You also have access to an Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) during your hospital stay.
