After the huge success of our after-hours medical care campaign, South Western Sydney PHN is now launching a new immunisation campaign to highlight the importance of immunisation in protecting the entire community.
At South Western Sydney PHN, we believe every member of the community can be an immunisation hero. Being immunised not only helps you stay healthy, but it also helps you protect your family, your loved ones and your entire community from vaccine preventable diseases.
Vaccination is essential throughout your life to protect against many infections, when you skip vaccines, you leave yourself exposed to illnesses such as shingles, pneumococcal disease, influenza, whooping cough and other diseases that can be prevented, whilst when everyone in the community is immunised, this creates a chain of immunity protecting those who are most vulnerable in the community, also known as herd immunity.
South Western Sydney PHN CEO Rene Pennock said the immunisation campaign was the latest in the PHN’s consumer information website Your Health Your Time Your Way.
“We are pleased to announce the launch of the 'Be an Immunisation Hero' campaign in South Western Sydney. We want to encourage everyone in the community to be immunised, protected and to always follow up with their GP,” Mr Pennock said.
"On the website, there will be consumer friendly information on immunisation throughout life, information about diseases and illnesses as well as where to go for help.
"Our goal is to empower our residents in South Western Sydney to make the right choices when it comes to their health, people need to know where to go to find the right information and build a relationship with a regular GP."
Late last year, we launched the consumer campaign “Your Health Your Time Your Way” which aims to educate residents of South Western Sydney on key local health priorities through an online platform where residents in SWS can easily find and access health information and advice.
We understand accessing health information, or seeking advice isn’t the same journey for everyone. We want to ensure access to health information and education is done in your time, when you need it, and in your own way, whether that be accessing the information online, through a GP or a support service.
Your Health Your Time Your Way also provides information on breast, bowel and cervical screening, and where to go to seek medical assistance after hours at Liverpool, Campbelltown and Southern Highlands clinics, or through home GP and helpline services. Aboriginal Health, mental health and more information will be added soon.
You will begin to see Your Health Your Time Your Way immunisation messages (Be an immunisation hero, protect your community) out in shopping centres and online. The campaign is about empowering everyone to be immunised to protect the entire community, because immunisation is for everyone.
